PUBLIC BENEFIT SHOW SAMPLES

As part of our agreement with Seattle Center, A/NT Gallery hosts public benefit shows of Seattle based non-profit arts organizations that benefit underserved and/or marginalized communities. These samples are from March to November 2018.

March 2018: FASD Art Awareness Through Art.  Art show in our “Center Gallery”, of artwork by artists who live with FASD (Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder).  This show was a collaboration between the UW medical Research team and FAS Washington, a local nonprofit that promotes awareness and prevention of FASD.  The gallery also hosted a musical performance by a local musician living with FASD.

April 2018: EarthWise Art Show. Art show in our “Center Gallery”, featuring recycled artwork in celebration of Earth Month.  This show was a collaboration between Seattle Recreative and the Seattle Recycled Art Festival.  Seattle Recreative is a local nonprofit that encourages artist to use recycled art materials, through store front sales of such items, and artwork programing.  The Seattle Recycled art Festival coordinates getting artists from around Seattle who work in recycled mediums for art showings and festival activities in the Seattle Area.


May 2018: Psychosomatic - Where your Soul Hides its Suffering:  Art show in our “Center Gallery”, an interactive show utilizing canvas and paint enabling the public to study how their emotional states effect their physical health and wellbeing.  Artists Hiba Jameel painted a series of large human forms for the public to paint on and to indicate where on their bodies they feel stress and pain.  Show was sponsored by The Seattle Office of Arts and Culture and was in celebration of National Mental Health Awareness Month.

June 2018: ARTvocacy Refugee Art show:  Art show in our “Center Gallery”, of artwork created by local refugees.  This show was a collaboration with The International Rescue Committee (IRC) and KEXP.  During the month of June KEXP host the IRC for World Refugee Day and as neighbors we hosted the art show while KEXP hosted the ceremony for Naturalization for local refugees.  This show also hosted a Sip and Paint night with IRC in the gallery.

July 2018: Please Touch A Tactile Art Show.  Art show in our “Center Gallery”, of artwork created by local Blind and Visually impaired artists, FOR blind and visually impaired patrons to experience.  This show was put on by the Mount Baker Neighborhood Center for the Arts.  During the opening the director of the MBNCA blind folded willing sighted patrons and guided them through the show to give them a better understanding of how the show is meant to be experienced.


August 2018: Art From the Streets.  Art show in our “Center Gallery”, of local artists who are either currently homeless or transitioning into housing.  This show was in collaboration with the Union Gospel Mission.  The Union Gospel Mission provides free programing for local homeless individuals to exercise creativity with art demonstrations and materials.  These types of programs are important because the human spirt needs more then food and shelter to thrive.  


September 2018: Emergencia Artistica Seattle.  Art show in our “Center Gallery” of local emerging artist who have relocated to Seattle from Mexico.  This show was in collaboration with the Mexican Consulate and was part of the festival they organize around the City of Seattle Metro area called MexAm Festival.  This festival celebrates Mexican American Culture and Heritage in Seattle.


November 2018: Where Eagles Dare.  A collaboration of Veteran and Civilian Captive Artists.  Art show in our “Center Gallery”, of local veterans and civilians who are currently incarcerated.  This show was in collaboration with the local non-profit, A Touch of Light, who’s mission is to help incarcerated artists to feel like they can be a positive contribution to their community and the families of incarcerated artists.
