Under Fire: Sacred Art in Today’s Ukraine
An exhibition featuring artists from the Lviv National Academy of Arts. December 4 to 27,2024.
This exhibition celebrates the relevance of Ukrainian icon painting. Even while in bomb shelters, Ukraine’s artists continue their work.
Since the 10th century, the icons’ other-worldly compositions and radiant colors have provided a contemplative space for the faithful to be present with the divine. Despite ongoing repression, this imagery is still present in Ukraine’s collective memory.
This exhibition juxtaposes traditional and contemporary depictions of the sacred: artists who embrace prescribed methods and motifs of iconography and those who push its boundaries.
Portion of sales and your donations will support: Lviv National Academy of Arts , and its displaced students; Ukrainian Association of Washington State’s amputee support program.
This exhibition made possible with support from: LNAM, Lviv National Art Academy, Radruzh School of Iconography, A/NT Gallery, Ukrainian Association of Washington State.
