Beacon Arts, an all-volunteer organization dedicated to providing opportunities for artists in the Beacon Hill Neighborhood of South Seattle, organized six monthly ‘Beacon Arts Street Fairs’ on Roberto Maestas Festival Street adjacent to El Centro de la Raza and the Beacon Hill Light Rail Station.
Volunteers hosted an interactive booth inviting fair goers to engage in conversation and draw pictures illustrating their concerns about climate change and what they were doing, at home and in their neighborhood, to support a healthy earth.
This show features five, four foot by five foot, canvases painted in acrylic, utilizing nearly all of the drawings done by the community members at the fair booth.
Seven volunteer artists with Beacon Arts contributed time to enlarge and transfer the public’s drawings to the canvases. The transfer and painting process was done with an emphasis on establishing an environment and telling a story.
Beacon Arts is honored and grateful for the opportunity to share this public generated art project here at A/NT.
